The European Way Of Streaming
With Bedrock Streaming on The Media Odyssey - Ep. 16
Time to quit it.
Quit what?
Quit looking at the US streamers like they’re THE role model.
Quit undermining what we, Europeans, do day in day out to innovate in the space.
Quit thinking there’s no way for local and regional players in Europe to thrive in a globalised streaming world.
You think a show like “Adolescence” would have been possible without the UK and European creative and business communities. Think again.
You think Netflix could have made its own daily soap in the South of France without TF1? Think again.
Yes we haven’t been able to build a homegrown European streamer (yet) competing with global giants but when it comes to content, advertising and technology, I see innovative companies transforming themselves to super serve local audiences.
Now you know how passionate I am about Europe and so it was about time we dedicated time to the region on The Media Odyssey Podcast.
Evan Shapiro and I travelled to Lyon (France) to sit down (and look like Martha Stewart or Ellen De Generes on a proper TV set 😎) to explore how European broadcasters are quietly leading a streaming transformation.
We brought in a guest, Bedrock CEO Jonas Engwall, to speak about the technology powering this transformation.
From free, ad-supported platforms to collaborative infrastructure, we unpack how Bedrock’s tech backbone is helping legacy media compete with global giants and why Europe’s streaming future may lie in radical cooperation over direct competition.
