What Do Buyers Want?
Spectrum Reach Live Pod @Cannes Lions - The Media Odyssey Podcast - Ep. 26
“We’ve locked the doors. We’ve got a buyer in the room. We’re not letting him out.”
Yes, that’s how
and I kicked off this episode of The Media Odyssey Podcast because when you find a media buyer at Cannes Lions, you hold on tight. We sat down (in the Spectrum Reach apartment, no less) with two heavyweights of the ad business: Dan Callahan, CRO of Spectrum Reach, and Dave Campanelli, President of Global Investments at Horizon Media. We talked the mood on the Croisette (spoiler: cautious optimism), the state of the Upfronts, the most sought-after content genre, a multi-currency world and why programmatic might finally be facing its reckoning.
But what really stood out wasn’t just the tech talk. It was the shift in tone. Buyers and sellers are finally talking like collaborators, not adversaries. We heard “ROAS” more times than we can count (MNTN even had a rosé bottle and a billboard about it right above Caffé Roma).
Finally if you want to toast something, raise a glass (or a coffee mug) to Dan Callahan, newly minted Chief Revenue Officer, who found out about his promotion right here in Cannes. We’ll take partial credit.
