School’s out, I repeat school’s out. A tiny (big?) feeling of freedom here, no more lunch boxes, homework, football games and co. In July, the motto is work hard, have fun. Here’s your 5 must-know stories of the week.
🇪🇺 EU Broadcasters Still Very Much Alive
At the top of the year, I praised the French market for being the most innovative in the region. 2024 had been a stellar year for the French market. Despite political instability, we saw commercial broadcasters launching new platforms; a public broadcaster going above and beyond with the Olympics; innovative partnerships amongst broadcasters, between broadcasters and streamers.
In 2025, France goes even bigger with the Netflix & TF1 deal with Netflix ditching the solo act after 18 years in streaming. Yesterday, RTL Germany announced the upcoming purchase of Sky Germany to build a local champion to compete with global streamers, social media and YouTube (full analysis of the implications of this deal on Tuesday).
To those who say Europe lags behind, I say …
⌚️Timing is everything
It's like we knew this past week would be eventful for European broadcasters or it's because we all believe in the resilience of the European Broadcasting landscape. Either way, if you want the data gold from Omdia, the savoir faire of Irdeto and the Streaming Made Easy analysis, this webinar is for YOU.
💻 Karpathy’s LLM OS Moment
Say OS and you have my attention.
At YC’s AI Startup School, Andrej Karpathy reframed LLMs as an operating-system suggesting that instead of traditional operating systems, we might soon have an AI language model serving as the master controller.
For Laymen, Ezra Eeman from Wayfinder breaks it down for us in this piece (speaking of Ezra, he’s preparing a keynote at SME Live on … AI!).

📱 The 1-Second View Economy
Nicholas Cicero from Mondo Metrics just updated his Social Media cheat sheet but soon enough he won’t need to anymore.
Why? We are in the 1-second view economy. Meta folded every non-live Facebook video into Reels. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Snap and X already count a view at one second, LinkedIn waits two, long-form YouTube clings to thirty (but for how long?).
If your KPI sheet worships raw views you’re reading last year’s weather, time to track watch time and clicks.
That’s it for today but before you go 🗳️
Enjoy your day and see you on Tuesday for a Deep Dive edition of Streaming Made Easy Premium.
