This week on The Media Odyssey Podcast, Evan Shapiro and I sat down with Whale TV, the company quietly running millions of TV sets worldwide. Odds are, you’ve used their tech without ever knowing.
Now, they’ve rebranded, started putting their name on the box and revealed the scale of their TV business: 44M monthly active TVs worldwide, 400 brand partners across 96 markets. Crazy right that we’ve heard so little about them until now?!
At a time where detailed data on TV OS footprints is scarce, Whale TV gave us an exclusive 1st look at their regional breakdown:
We spoke with Teresa Alonso López and Chris Hock to understand how they work with CTV stakeholders: from content providers, advertisers to OEMS. They believe the old (license fee) model is broken and their response is radical: give the OS away for free, then share the revenue upside with OEMs.
